About New Porgera

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

NPL is currently seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join the Occupational Health & Safety Department as a Advisor, Safety .

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Safety Advisor, the successful candidate will be responsible to support site teams with risk assessments, coaching, and incident follow-up. Ensures compliance with mine safety laws and helping to maintain zero-harm outcomes through proactive hazard identification.

To support safety compliance through inspections, coaching, and risk management activities. Advises operational teams on best practices and control measures to prevent incidents and maintain a safe mining environment.

In this role, you will;

  • Proactively encourage compliance with safety standards across all operational areas

  • Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on safety compliance and obligations

  • Support and mentor teams in hazard identification and control measures

  • Conduct incident investigation and risk assessments as required

  • Track and report Health and Safety metrics, analysing trends to drive continual improvement

  • Supervise workplace safety audit groups and monitor outcomes of safety audit reports

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures to promote high safety and health awareness

  • Prepare and deliver safety-related training sessions and other duties as directed

  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance and incident prevention

  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health regulations and procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (desirable)
  • Cert.IV in Work Health & Safety and certifications in incident investigations (preferably ICAM)
  • Behavioral Safety qualifications (desirable)
  • Proven experience in a safety advisory role within a similar industry
  • Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections
  • Background in developing and implementing safety programs and policies
  • Strong understanding of OH&S regulations and risk management practices
  • Collaborate with site management, supervisors, and employees to promote safety culture
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, contractors, and suppliers to ensure compliance and best practices
  • Engage with training providers to ensure up-to-date and relevant safety training programs
  • Familiarity with safety management systems and software
  • Valid Class 6 Drivers License
