New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports
NPL is currently seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join the Capital & Projects team as a Senior Surveyor.
About the role
Reporting to the Superintendent- Construction Projects, the Senior Surveyor is responsible for leading and managing all surveying activities associated with large-scale capital infrastructure projects. This role involves planning, executing, and overseeing land, construction, and engineering surveys to ensure accurate data collection, alignment, and compliance with project specifications and regulatory standards. The Senior Surveyor collaborates closely with project engineers, planners, and construction teams to support successful project delivery from inception to completion.
In this role, you will.
- Lead and coordinate surveying activities for capital projects including topographical surveys, boundary surveys, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Interpret and analyze project plans, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate survey methodologies and work plans.
- Conduct site inspections to assess conditions and resolve surveying challenges in the field.
- Manage survey data collection, processing, and quality assurance to ensure high accuracy and reliability.
- Prepare detailed survey reports, maps, and documentation for use by engineering and construction teams.
- Supervise and mentor junior surveyors and field technicians, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, architects, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure all surveying activities comply with relevant legal, environmental, and safety regulations.
- Utilize advanced surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS, drones, and laser scanning technology.
- Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for surveying components of capital projects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to surveying and measurement.
- Work with other seniors, surveyors and contractors to complete projects works on sites outside of the SML
- Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Surveyor certification/licensure preferred (e.g., RPLS, CP Surveyor).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in surveying within capital infrastructure or construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment.
- Proficiency in surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, Trimble Business Center).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work in various site conditions, including challenging terrain and weather.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Demonstrated well-developed communication, leadership and technical skills within a multi-disciplined mine team in a medium to large Mining Operation as well as Civil or Community Projects setting
- High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG

Mobilization Requirement
- This position is open to PNG Citizens Only
- Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off FIFO basic
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage).
- Must Have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
