About the Company
Our client is a well-established non-profit organisation involved in community development and partnerships across Papua New Guinea. The organisation supports humanitarian and development programs through faith-based initiatives and maintains strong financial governance to meet the standards of its external donors.

About the Role
The Project Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial management of donor-funded projects, particularly those under a church partnership program. You will work with project managers and finance teams to ensure proper budgeting, tracking of expenses, reporting, and compliance with donor and audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting
  • Prepare and analyse cash flow statements to support financial planning and donor accountability.
  • Provide monthly financial updates including; bank reconciliations, Budget Vs Actual Reports, Trail Balance reports, Capital Work in Progress, Income and expenditure reports, Balance sheet reports and Fixed asset register.
  • Review and approve journals, invoices and EFT payments in NetSuite daily
  • Ensure compliance in with grant agreements and donor financial guidelines.
  • Performing monthly reconciliations (including bank accounts, fixed assets, capital works)
  • Assist in audit preparations and provide documentation for internal/ external audits.
  • Generate financial reports for donors, ensuring transparency and accountability
  • Participating in board meetings to provide financial updates and support strategic decisions
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis to optimise financial decision making
  • Monitor budget variance, identifying discrepancies and corrective actions
  • Prepare monthly management reports, summarising financial performance.
  • Review and adjust general ledger entries and perform month -end closings.
Requirements of the Role
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, CA, ACCA (preferred)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within donor-funded projects.
  • Strong understanding of grant funding, compliance, and reporting standards
  • Proficiency in NetSuite of similar, ERP / accounting software.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards and reporting requirements in a donor funded environment.
  • Experience with Budget tracking, financial forecasting and audits
  • Budget management: Skilled in tracking expenditures, monitoring budget variances and performing financial forecasting.
