Project Coordinator – Peacebuilding Project

CARE International in PNG is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Coordinator to support the effective coordination and implementation of the Peacebuilding Program. CARE International in PNG aims to continue its work in Peace Building in the upper Highlands. CARE works directly with community members, local civil society organizations, community leaders, and local authorities to implement community-driven conflict prevention activities in Enga province across 8 communities. Key activities include educating communities about the benefits of peace and how to achieve it, training of village court magistrates and community police on conflict mitigation and conducting community needs analysis in a participatory way. This includes pro-active inclusion of women.

This position will report to the Program Manager who is based in Goroka. The main responsibilities of the position are: 1. Establish and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders, including government and other development partners on the ground. 2. Work with local communities to review and provide technical support to their Community Peace for Development Plans 3. Coordinate with relevant Enga Provincial Government stakeholders such as; Department of Agriculture and Livestock to monitor progress of the community small grants projects, Department of Law and Justice; Village Court Services, etc. 4. Coach and provide technical support to the Executives of the community-based Cooperatives 5. Monitoring and mentoring support for the registered cooperatives, women led CBOs, youths’ groups and CSOs directly involved in peacebuilding advocacy.

This role is based in Wabag with frequent travels to the communities selected in Enga province. S/he will direct line supervise few officers.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Community Development and/or, Peace building, Humanitarian or other related fields and/or minimum 4- 5 years relevant work experience in community development preferably with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO) and/or private company;

  • Demonstrated experience in following standard policies, procedures and processes and ensure the implementation of basic standard transactions including the management and acquittal of cash advance;
  • Proven experience in report writing and donor submissions;
  • A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities;
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning, problem solving and team building skills;
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, working in a team and the ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated characteristics in honesty, reliability, trustworthiness with the ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Demonstrated ability to contributes to group objectives and work effectively in a group setting;
  • Representational skills including developing networks and relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the organisation with high level external audiences;
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in both Pidgin and English; and
  • Fully conversant in Microsoft Office with knowledge in Microsoft Word, Power Point and

  • Good organisational skills and ability to support field activity planning, logistics and documentation.

  • Ability to travel and work in rural and remote communities, including under challenging field conditions
