K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. We are now transforming the operation with a new 1.2 mtpa process plant as well as extensive construction and expansion across site that will see us triple the output from our mine by 2027. About the role

This position will be responsible for providing a strong geotechnical support and service to the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Operations and other Strategic Planning teams at K92 with particular emphasis on:

  • Maintaining a minimum safe standard for all personnel, infrastructure and equipment on site
  • Mitigating geotechnical material hazards to the site and company
  • Ensure geotechnical systems and procedures are implemented, employed and maintained, identify and implement business improvement through problem solving, innovation and technology

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Oversee TSF and prescribed structures through structured monitoring, mapping, testing, and instrumentation (e.g., prisms, piezometers, SAAV, seismic data).
  • Conduct scheduled and impromptu inspections, ensuring adherence to design standards, ITP hold points, and Safe Work Procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and impromptu reports, risk assessments, hazard management plans, and geotechnical presentations as per departmental standards.
  • Provide clear, concise documentation and communicate inspection outcomes, deviations, and TARP triggers to relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify adverse ground conditions early, implement corrective actions, and minimize delays impacting construction and production.
  • Ensure geotechnical systems, critical controls, and hazard management processes are implemented, maintained, and verified, including personnel training and compliance evidence.
  • Maintain and enforce standards, TARPs, and procedures for prescribed structures and TSF, ensuring continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on major hazard monitoring, reporting, and presentations; participate in shared on-call responsibilities.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have

  • Degree or equivalent tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering from a recognized University.
  • Must be a Registered Engineer and hold the class of Member of the Institute of Engineers PNG or eligible for registration within 6 months is essential.
  • 3+ years’ relevant work experience in similar roles in mining operations.
  • Strong operational background with demonstrated ability to bring projects to completion on time and on budget.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Proficiency in MS Projects preferably with a high level of computer skills with standard Microsoft office programs
  • Sound planning, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with 3D models and use of AutoCAD, Surpac, Deswik and related software essential.
  • Initiative-taking with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
