Senior Mechanic – WML Workshop

The Role

Reporting to the Site Services Manager, the incumbent is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing the mechanical components of all vehicles on site by ensuring all vehicles are in roadworthy condition.

This is a FIFO position on at 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster. Preferred Points of Hire are Woodlark, Alotau, Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen.

Key responsibilities include

  • Identifying and fixing mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles
  • Performing regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level and tyre rotations
  • Implementing preventative maintenance procedures to identify potential problems before they escalate
  • Replacing worn or damage parts, such as brake pads, wheel bearings and sensors according to manufacturer and customer specifications
  • Maintaining and monitoring accurate records of parts inventory and stock level of LV parts and Equipment
  • Assist with scheduling and servicing of the Generators
  • Providing guidance and support to less experienced mechanic’s, ensuring high-quality workmanship
  • Adhering to all safety regulations and procedures in the workshop, including the use of personal protective equipment
  • Ensuring own Health & Safety as well as that of other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required

  • Behavior consistent with Geopacific’ s Values
  • Trade Certificate in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • At least 5 years experience in a busy service department with a proven track record of success
  • Advance Knowledge of vehicle systems including mechanical, electrical and electronic components
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Effective communication skills to interact with others including team members and management
  • Leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor other mechanics and workshop assistants
