The Role We are seeking a
Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide advanced technical expertise for a key national project. Based in Port Moresby and their site-based operations, this hands-on leadership role is critical to ensuring plant reliability and operational efficiency. You will support the Engineering Manager in establishing robust engineering standards and mentoring the next generation of technical talent.
Key Responsibilities - Technical Excellence: Lead the design, specification, and optimization of mechanical equipment and systems.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Develop and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximise uptime.
- Process Optimisation: Collaborate with operations to improve throughput, energy efficiency, and product quality.
- Project Management: Provide mechanical expertise for construction, commissioning, and plant expansion activities.
- Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and technicians to build local capability and foster a culture of safety.
- Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
Key Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years experience in heavy industry, specifically lime, cement, or mining.
- Proven expertise in mechanical design, equipment operation, and maintenance system development.
- Strong analytical ability with a background in reliability improvement and process control.
- Chartered Professional Engineer status (or eligibility) is highly regarded.
- Excellent communication skills and a "continuous improvement" mindset.
