Summary

The Senior MEP Engineer plays a pivotal role in managing and coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within construction projects. Their responsibilities extend to designing, reviewing, and overseeing MEP systems, ensuring adherence to relevant codes and standards. With expertise in BIM modeling, particularly in Navisworks and Revit, they lead the integration of these systems into the overall building design. They coordinate with various stakeholders, lead BIM coordination meetings, and mentor junior staff, ensuring seamless integration and efficient functionality of MEP components within complex construction environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out a variety of basic field duties at the job design related to the general construction and maintenance.
  • Study the project scope of works, Owner requirements, BOQ, project milestones, and specification from the supplied bid documents.
  • Take note of possible queries to be brought up to the owner for clarifications.
  • Conduct material inquiries with the related suppliers nominated by Procurement.
  • Evaluate contractor or supplier’s proposal to ensure conformity with project requirements.
  • Prepare estimates on manpower and construction tools & equipment to be utilized.
  • Acquire material submittals from selected suppliers and prepare submittals according to project requirements.
  • Provide technical directions to the construction to ensure designs and drawings are prepared according to project requirement.
  • Prepare design, drawing and technical requirements.
  • Utilize BIM (Building Information Modeling) to create, manage, and optimize building designs.
  • Collaborate with project teams using BIM tools, primarily Navisworks and Revit, for design coordination and clash detection.
  • Lead BIM coordination meetings and manage the BIM workflow within the project team.
  • Implement BIM best practices and standards in all design phases.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship in BIM processes to junior engineers and team members.
  • Carry out additional related works as directed by the Design & Planning Manager or Project Director.
  • Works with Design & Planning Manager or Project Director on instructions for any amendments to drawing documents and other related issues.

Job Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Specialist Diploma in M&E Coordination will be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 12-15 years' experience in Design, development and consultant or real estate field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a related engineering discipline, with a focus on BIM implementation in large-scale projects.
  • Technically sound on applicable codes, standards, and regulations based on AS/NZS and PNG Local Authorities.
  • Proficiency in BIM modeling, with at least an intermediate level of experience.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Navisworks and Revit BIM Modeling software.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing BIM projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to lead BIM discussions and resolve complex issues.
  • Familiarity with BIM standards, such as ISO 19650, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Ability to conduct electrical mechanical analysis and calculations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight schedules.
  • Skills in Design, cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and manpower requirements for proposals, forecast, and change orders.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft office and Auto CAD and other Engineering software.
  • High level of creativity, problem-solving skills, results orientation, communication skills and team playing abilities.
  • Fluent in English, oral and written.
