Senior Safety Security Officer – Goroka Based

CARE International in PNG is recruiting a Senior Safety Security Officer based in Goroka. CARE is an international development and humanitarian aid organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. As a non-religious and non-political organisation, CARE works with communities to help overcome poverty by supporting development efforts and providing emergency assistance. We believe supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities.

CARE International in PNG has a focus on Gender Equality, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Agriculture and Health.

The Senior Safety Security Officer (SSSO) promotes a safe and secure work environment; fosters a safe and secure culture and ensures the consistent application of and compliance with CARE Australia and CARE International safety and security policies and procedures within CARE International in PNG. The SSSO ensures the security and well-being of CARE staff, assets and operations.

The SSSO has six direct reports and is expected to organise staff and resources towards achieving objectives effectively and efficiently.

This role is based in Goroka, but will require travel to CARE PNG’s field offices and project sites as and when required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in management, Administration or other related fields and/or minimum technical diploma and/or 4 years relevant work experience in security activities preferably with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO) and/or private company;
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate; resolve conflicts; problem solve; make informed decisions and have sound judgment;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with partners;
  • Good skills and experience in facilitating training;
  • Demonstrated experience in following standard policies, procedures and processes and ensure the implementation of basic standard transactions including the management and acquittal of a cash advance;
  • A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities;
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and team building skills;
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, working in a team and the ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated characteristics in honesty, reliability, trustworthiness with the ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to group objectives and work effectively in a group setting;
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in both Pidgin and English; and
  • Fully conversant in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point
