About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Your Impact

As Superintendent, Asset Management Structural Integrity, you will lead structural integrity and asset performance programs at Newmont’s Lihir Operations. Your leadership will directly influence plant uptime, equipment reliability, and long-term sustainability through disciplined asset management strategies.

As Part of Our Team, You Will

  • Drive structural integrity improvements and plant remediation initiatives.
  • Lead asset management programs and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage budgets and forecasts for structural integrity activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to asset performance.
  • Provide performance reporting to senior leadership.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing asset management team.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor performance.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide asset investment decisions.

Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

  • Formal qualifications in Engineering or related fields.
  • Proven experience in asset management and structural remediation.
  • Advanced proficiency in asset management systems and compliance.
  • Strong skills in risk management, QA/QC, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Experience in contractor and vendor oversight.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Your Work Environment

This role is based onsite at Newmont’s Lihir operation in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and operates on a 21 days on / 21 days off FIFO roster. You will be part of the Fixed Plant Maintenance (FPM) team, working closely with Maintenance, Processing Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Health & Safety, as well as external stakeholders, including vendors and regulatory authorities.
