The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as Supervisor - Metallurgy

About the role

Reporting to the Metallurgist, Senior – Metallurgy, the successful candidate will coordinate the routine and non-routine work conducted in the metallurgical plant laboratory and ensure the test work is completed with high standards and in a timely manner.

In this role, you will:

• Oversee day-to-day operation of the Met Lab and ensure consumables, lab equipment and safety gears are managed properly
• Supervise contractors engaged within the Met group as well as new graduates undertaking training at Met Lab and ensure application of proper work procedures and practices are adhered
• Organize and participate in all routine metallurgical tasks, plant surveys, sampling, inventory stock take and test work programs
• Ensure timely and accurate execution of laboratory test work and routine metallurgy plant quality checks. Also, relevant reports must be released on time
• Provide support to optimize metallurgical performance in the processing plant and assist operational personnel in operation duties as required
• Promote environmentally sound work practices among peers and contractors and ensure all environmental requirements are complied with and maintained
• Uphold high standards of health and safety awareness, ensuring compliance with NPL’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all safety procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

• Tertiary educational qualifications in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering
• 3 or more years of experience in a similar role or plant metallurgist role with supervisory experience
• Be Computer Literate with experience in Metallurgical Database and accounting systems.
• Possess good communication and organization skills
• Physically fit, can work shifts and willing to be on a fly in fly out roster.
• Be highly self-motivated and willing to train, share and pass on knowledge to others
• Possess good problem-solving skills

Mobilization Requirement

• This position is open to PNG Citizens Only
• Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage).
• Must Have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
• Ability to foresee security inadequacies and implement plans to correct them.
