THE PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNG UoT) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join the School of Applied Sciences as a Technical Officer in Food Technology. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this vital role supports the academic and research functions of the school. The Technical Officer is expected to maintain effective management of laboratory operations, technical instruction and participating in the schools external Consultancy activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Prepare and source laboratory materials and maintain analytical and processing equipment for undergraduate and postgraduate Food Technology students
• Provide technical assistance to academic staff during laboratory experiments, food processing practicals and research experiments
• Ensure compliance with Food Safety protocols, data integrity and ethical conduct as well as contributing to continuous improvements to the laboratories risk assessments
• Maintain inventory records and oversee routine calibration and servicing of lab equipment
• Assist in the procurement of laboratory supplies and consumables

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, or a related field
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a laboratory-based technical role, preferably in the area or Food Microbiology within an academic setting or proven Food Industry related experience.
• Sound understanding of Food safety and hazardous biological waste management

Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills.

Condition of Service

Technical Officer I/II PGK26,709 - PGK38,241 per annum

Domestic Market Allowance PGK1,200

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
