About the role

Joining our Operational Services maintenance team, this role is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of mine power supply and distribution system for all electrical equipment on the mine, including back up generators, and on our exploration sites in Kainantu. In addition, this position will also play an important role in the training of trades assistants.

Key Accountabilities

  • Inspect, isolate, and repair electrical malfunctions using various hand and power tools.
  • Ensure that alarms and emergency electrical systems onsite are always operational.
  • Direct and train subordinates to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and machines.
  • Ensure and maintain safe work standards and practices in accordance with mine safety regulations for all tasks performed.
  • Monitor Network supply and communicate with Mining Operations for changeover of power supplies.
  • Prepare High Voltage Switching sheets, understand and follow Safe Operating Procedures related to High Voltage equipment.
  • Monitor Generators when they are operational and supplying Power to site.
  • Work with contractors and mechanical staff to maintain Generators so they are in good working order.
  • Inspect, isolate, and repair electrical malfunctions using various hand and power tools.
  • Diagnose electrical defects or hazards on systems, appliances and machinery and identify adjustment and repair timely.
  • Ensure that alarms and emergency electrical systems onsite are always operational.
  • Conduct regular electrical tests and tagging on equipment, appliances, and machines.
  • Inspect, test and qualified to apply and remove ‘out-of-service’ or ‘not-to-be operated’ tags to electrical equipment, appliances, and machines.
  • Direct and train subordinates to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment and machines.
  • Respond to routine and emergency calls for repair and service within the mine site area.
  • Be on call in emergency situations and extreme conditions.
  • Perform general housekeeping within and around work area.
  • Ensure and maintain safe work standards and practices in accordance with mine safety regulations for all tasks performed.
  • Maintain safety work standards in accordance with government regulations and company policy.
  • Perform all roles and responsibilities that support and reflect the company’s mission and core values

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have a NATTB Trade Certificate as well a current electrical license. You will also need to demonstrate experience in the installation and maintenance of power distribution systems, transformer installations, motor control centres, LVHV transfers, motor starters and controls; and in the maintenance of equipment – electric motors, compressor stations and other electrical equipment.

  • Experience in High Voltage switching and Power Station Operation and Maintenance
  • A certified electrician with 5 years’ work experience in a mining environment.
  • The person shall have wide experience in the
  • Must be a Tradesman with PPL certification.
  • Maintain current electrician’s license to meet government regulations.
  • Ability to train maintenance personnel in all aspects of their trade – particularly in diagnosis and fault finding, quality control, thoroughness and record keeping.
  • Must be a self-starter, and very resourceful, with the ability to find solutions to problems to ensure the
  • equipment availability is high.
  • Good health physical ability is a prerequisite, as is the ability to live in a remote environment with limited facilities.
  • Flexible, adaptable and be a team player.
