About the Role

PNGUNRE invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated candidates for appointment as Tutor (Technical Instructor – Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering) within the Department of Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering, School of Environment and Climate Change (SECC).

This position supports the delivery of tutorials, laboratory sessions, and applied practical learning in Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering programs. The role contributes to undergraduate teaching, laboratory-based instruction, applied research support, and industry- and community-linked activities aligned with PNGUNRE’s mandate in renewable energy development, environmental sustainability, and climate change response.

The successful appointee will work under the direction of a Lecturer and report to the Head of Department, Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Lecturers in the preparation and delivery of tutorials, laboratory sessions, and practical classes in Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering.
  • Plan, prepare, and support engineering laboratories and applied practical classes to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Provide technical assistance to students during laboratory work, practical assessments, and applied learning activities.
  • Assist in setting assessment tasks, marking scripts, and submission of student results in accordance with university procedures.
  • Support academic staff in applied research activities, including data collection, laboratory work, and research implementation.
  • Contribute to the preparation of teaching and learning materials and laboratory manuals.
  • Participate in short courses, workshops, seminars, and industry or community engagement activities facilitated by the Department.
  • Attend departmental, school, and University meetings, seminars, and training as required.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on technical and instructional matters, as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Ensure compliance with university quality assurance standards, academic regulations, and administrative protocols.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Head of Department and Dean, School of Environment and Climate Change.

Qualifications, Experience & Competency Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field is an advantage.
  • Broad technical knowledge of renewable energy systems, environmental engineering applications, and climate-related technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to support laboratory-based teaching and practical instruction in undergraduate engineering programs.
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment software, AutoCAD, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) is desirable.
  • Ability to plan, organise, and implement engineering laboratory and practical classes.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications and basic ICT systems used in academic environments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, academic staff, and external partners.
  • Good interpersonal skills, professional presentation, and a collaborative team approach.
  • Ability to manage workload pressures during peak academic periods.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, and commitment to PNGUNRE values.

Salary Range

Tutor (Technical Instructor)
K36,288.00 – K55,632.00
(plus applicable allowances and benefits)
