Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking Experienced Dewatering Operators to join our Dewatering team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Dewatering Specialist, this position plays a critical role in supporting the efficient operation of our dewatering systems on-site by assisting with pump setup, piping work, spotting, and various related tasks.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance (operational) of dewatering pumps and associated equipment.
  • Support piping work, including laying and connecting hoses and pipes for effective water management.
  • Provide support in spotting and assisting with the safe transport and installation of pumps, pipes, and other dewatering infrastructure.
  • Monitoring of water levels and perform site inspections to ensure that the dewatering system is operating effectively.
  • Ensure proper storage, maintenance and handling of dewatering tools.
  • Assist in transportation and delivery of dewatering equipment and materials to various locations
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols, including proper handling of fuels and chemicals.
  • Carry out other operational tasks as required.

  • Manage your own time, in support of the delivery of the team/crew.

People Accountabilities

  • Contribute to effective team.
  • Complying with established environmentally sustainable measures to not adversely impact on the natural fauna, flora, freshwater resources and marine life within the bounds of Simberi Island.

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Technical training in mining, plumbing, or mechanical systems preferred)
  • Experience in dewatering systems, pumps, or water management in mining or construction is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical components, and fluid dynamics
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to water management
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including adverse weather, and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
