We are currently seeking a Graduate Metallurgist to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo, Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the Graduate Metallurgist is responsible to optimise the extraction and processing of Simberi Au in the Simberi Process Plant of Simberi Gold Operation. Simberi Gold Operation is designed to process up to 3 million tonnes per annum (3Mtpa) of dry ore feed. The operation is design for twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, with an average feed rate of three hundred and seventy-five (375 t/h), and a design plant availability of 91.3%. Ore is sourced exclusively from Sorowar ore deposit or alternatively as a blend of Sorowar ore and ore sourced from numerous Simberi satellite ore bodies. This gold processing facility presents a unique opportunity to test and refine the metallurgical process range of plant and equipment, within an established and high-performing environment..

The opportunity

Role accountabilities

  • Contributing to the health and safety of all personnel in the Processing Department.
  • Work closely with Plant Metallurgists/Metallurgists to build chemical metallurgical skills.
  • Assist plan and conduct plant process audits, anlalysis, and reporting.
  • Learn Metallurgical Laboratory procedures and conduct testwork, report results of testwork.
  • Contribute to monitor the day-to-day technical results of the processing plant and assist Plant Metallurgists/Metallurgists to optimise recovery.
  • Provide input into operating variable adjustments needed to achieve target outputs.
  • Report any performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate plant performance feedback and changes to the plan to the operators as needed.
  • Learn to operate sections of the processing plant, including crushing, grinding, Leach-CIP, elution, goldroom, tailings thickening and disposal.
  • Assist in production and shipment forecasting and budgeting to develop your metallurgical accounting skills.
  • Look for and suggest improvement opportunities in all areas of the plant and data recording.
  • Foster a strong and productive culture though communication, dedication and teamwork.
  • Contributing to ensuring that the Process Department meets it’s environmental, community and statutory obligations.
  • Contributing to ensuring a constructive and creative environment for business improvement within the Processing Department.
  • Contributing to timely and accurate reporting within the Processing Department.
