We are currently seeking ROM Leading Hands to join our Mining team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Mining Supervisor, this position will assist the Mining Supervisor to lead the mining team and ensuring that all safety and production targets are met.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

• Monitor and maintain compliance with Company safe operating procedures.
• Support the Mining Supervisor with safe efficient supervision of surface mine operations employees to meet projected production targets.
• Support the Mining Supervisor to supervise daily open pit mining and training activities with the efficient utilisation of equipment and personnel.
• Communicate Company Policies to surface mining employees.
• Provide employees with advice and leadership on personal matters.
• Recommend improvements to safe operating procedures.
• Participate and promote Safety activities and inspections.
• Assign daily work tasks and record performance.
• Promote awareness of equipment housekeeping and safety inspection of the workplace.
• Actively participate in departmental safety meetings and display a safety conscience attitude.
• Punctual attendance for all rostered shifts.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Scheduling Accountabilities

• Managing the best use of own time to achieve the required outcomes.
• Understand the current weekly Mine plan and weekly targets.

People Accountabilities

• Identify operator skill deficiencies and propose remedial actions or training.
• Assign daily work tasks and record performance

Essential

• Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
• Five (5) years’ experience in Mining operations with at least two (2) years in a similar role
• Current PNG Drivers Licence
• Ability to operate and work in a safe and responsible manner
• Highly effective verbal interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability to work within a team environment
• Willingness and ability to relieve Mining Supervisor during absence

Desirable

• Attained Grade 12 Certificate
